More than a thousand years ago it was a monastery, for over three centuries it has been the residence of the Marquises Guerrieri Gonzaga who are its passionate custodians. Today the San Leonardo estate is a garden of vineyards and roses protected by the imposing Trentino mountains that dampen the cold northern winds, while the valley floor welcomes and offers the warmth of Lake Garda. The estate is an ancient world where the patient cellar practices, still absolutely artisanal, give wines that are authentic jewels of Italian oenology, standing out for freshness, harmony and an innate elegance.

The soul of San Leonardo is closely tied to the Guerrieri Gonzaga family, winemakers in San Leonardo since the 18th century, who are part of the fascinating centuries-old history of the estate. The long family tradition echoes in every corner of the company. An initial reorganization of the estate took place between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century thanks to the father of the Marquis Carlo, a wine enthusiast. But Carlo was the first true winemaker of the family, passionate about great wines, who for fifty years has dedicated almost all of his attention and time to San Leonardo. He has also passed on his passion and love for the vine and wine to his son Anselmo, who today manages the company, always listening to the heart that beats for this estate loved by the whole family in every choice.

But Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga was the first true winemaker of the family, his training was dictated not only by the prospect of personally managing the family agricultural heritage but above all by a lively curiosity for great wines, Bordeaux first and foremost. From this was born his decision to study winemaking in Lausanne and deepen his knowledge with study trips to France and Tuscany. Right here, on the San Guido property, he began the long and fruitful relationship with Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who introduced him to all the secrets of the Bordeaux blend and became in all respects his “wine godfather”.

Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga has dedicated almost all of his attention and time to Tenuta San Leonardo for almost fifty years. His son Anselmo, now the company's administrator, has also been working full time for years and, like his father, is in love with this Trentino land, its horizons, its scents.
