WHEN WE SIP A FRANCIACORTA, WE TASTE CENTURIES OF HISTORY.

Who knows what Franciacorta tasted like over a thousand years ago. It was certainly already highly appreciated, as demonstrated by some ancient documents dating back to the 8th century AD when the powerful female abbey of Santa Giulia da Brescia produced the best wine of the Benedictine community. Few places in Europe have such a rich collection of testimonies in which wine has accompanied man through the centuries. Even our beloved "bubbles" have ancient origins. It is certain that already in the 13th century, fine effervescent white wines were produced for a demanding public.

“The butler escorted me into the living room of Palazzo Lana Berlucchi. The notes of Georgia on my mind vibrated in the air: Guido Berlucchi was at the piano. The count closed the piano, greeted me warmly and began to question me, a young winemaker, about the tricks to improve his unstable white wine. I answered his questions without hesitation, and in greeting him I dared: what if we also made a sparkling wine in the French style?”. Franco Ziliani Winemaker.

Berlucchi accepted this proposal from Franco Ziliani, and the two pioneers were joined by their friend Giorgio Lanciani. The challenge began and, after some less fortunate years, in 1961 three thousand bottles of Pinot di Franciacorta were sealed. Uncorked the following year, they proved to be excellent.
