The bond between the Cotarella family and the world of wine began in the 1960s, when Antonio and Domenico Cotarella, winemakers in Monterubiaglio, created the first winery for their own wine production.

THE STORY

FALESCO WAS BORN IN 1979

Brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella founded the Falesco Winery in Montefiascone, in Upper Lazio, with the aim of recovering the ancient vines of the area.

FIRST VINTAGE MONTIANO 1993 AND FERENTANO

The attention paid since 1990 to a particular Merlot clone, gives life to Montiano, acclaimed since the beginning as one of the greatest and most innovative Italian reds, standing out for its remarkable elegance, for its precious aromatic heritage, for its great concentration and structure. Also in 1993 , the exciting research path begun twenty years earlier around the Roscetto variety, culminates with the arrival of Ferentano, a wine that fully expresses the potential and richness of this grape and this territory.

IN 1999 Falesco enriched its assets with the acquisition of the Marciliano Farm, of about 260 hectares, located on the beautiful hill south of Orvieto, in the municipalities of Montecchio and Baschi. From these vineyards come the grapes destined for the production of Marciliano and on this territory in Umbria the new winery was built.

IN 2009 FALESCO TURNS THIRTY

In the year of its thirtieth anniversary, Falesco begins production of Trentanni, a Rosso dell'Umbria dedicated to the thirtieth anniversary of its foundation.

FALESCO PARTICIPATES IN EXPO

Riccardo Cotarella is appointed President of the Scientific Committee for the preparation of the VINO – A taste of Italy pavilion at Expo Milano 2015.


2016 GENERATIONAL CHANGE

Dominga, Marta and Enrica, daughters of Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, officially take over the management of the company.

2017 LIAISON (FRENCH WINES) IS BORN

The project that links Famiglia Cotarella to small fashion houses and producers is born, for which it distributes their excellent products in Italy.

ALWAYS IN 2017 COTARELLA FAMILY IN TUSCANY

The latest estate to join the family is the Azienda Agricola Le Macioche, an acquisition that makes a dream come true and represents a great opportunity to enter a reference territory in the international wine scene, that of Brunello di Montalcino.

2018 TELLUS FARM OPENING

A structure entirely dedicated to children and their families is born, a place where it is possible to re-establish contact with nature in all its expressions, from the educational garden to direct contact with animals up to the sensory laboratories and outdoor sports.

COTARELLA FOUNDATION

Fondazione Cotarella was born in April 2021 and was founded by Dominga, Marta and Enrica Cotarella. Eating Disorders are in the vast majority of cases psychosocial disorders. Most young people blame their personal discomfort, fear of not being good enough and the expectations of others on their eating habits. The Cotarella Sisters have thought not only of young people, but also of families who feel they can't cope. Fondazione Cotarella gives a broader meaning to what is the historic family business of wine producers.
