Vermentino and Ansonica, typical vines of the Tuscan coastal area, join forces with Viognier, planted after years of patient experimentation, for an elegant white wine, a witness to the aromas and colours of the Maremma coast.

THE CLIMATE:

The 2024 vintage was characterised by a cool climate and with
rainfall until June, while the summer was characterized by a dry and generally hot climate. Budding was regular while the rains and low temperatures of May and June caused a delay in flowering and fruit set. During September, the rains and excellent temperature variations between day and night favored the maintenance of the aromatic and gustatory freshness of the grapes. The harvest for Vivia began with the Viognier in the first week of September, continued with the Vermentino, and concluded with the Ansonica harvest in the penultimate week of the month.

VINIFICATION AND REFINING:

Upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes were softly pressed and vinified separately, in order to enhance the characteristics of each variety. The must thus obtained was brought to a temperature of 10 °C for approximately 24 hours in order to promote its natural clarification; it was subsequently transferred to stainless steel tanks, where alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 16 °C. Vivia aged for a short period in steel in contact with its own yeasts for approximately 3 months before being bottled in January 2025.

THE WINE:

Vivia 2024 has a straw yellow color with bright reflections. The olfactory impact is intense and perfumed: pleasant notes of pear, lemon and cedar are accompanied by fine sensations of orange blossom and chamomile. On the palate it is taut, savory, with a fresh and persistent finish, characterized by hints of lemon peel and sage.

HISTORICAL DATA:

Le Mortelle is located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, a few kilometers from Castiglione della Pescaia, in an extraordinary and fascinating position both for the nature and for the history of the places that surround it. The Antinori family has always been present in these lands. In 1863, a patrimonial act mentions among the possessions Poggio Franco, one of the most suitable vineyards of the estate, together with other parcels of land. Since 1999 the family has worked both on the vineyards and on the new cellar with the conviction that the area, still emerging in the Italian wine scene, is highly suited to the production of quality wines and that here the characteristics of the terroir and the varieties grown can best express themselves. The soil, of medium texture, sandy and silty, has a predominantly siliceous-clayey composition and is, in certain areas, rich in skeleton. Here Vermentino and Ansonica, typical vines of the Tuscan coastal area, join Viognier, planted after years of patient experimentation, for an elegant white, witness to the aromas and colors of the Maremma coast.
