Note: The first tests date back to the 1973 harvest and the first vintage put on sale with this name and this label was the 1975 harvest. Historically, Vintage Tunina starts as a blend of the best grapes that are harvested late, depending on the year, about two weeks after the normal harvest on an area of about 16 hectares of vineyard cultivated on Ronco del Fortino. The name Tunina refers to the old owner of the land on which the original vineyard is located and is dedicated to Casanova's poorest lover, who was a governess in Venice who was also called Tunina (Antonia). With the 2015 harvest, Vintage Tunina celebrates its first 40 years. Already in 1979 considered by Luigi Veronelli: “The true Mennea of wines, an exciting Cru of the Collio Goriziano”, (Pietro Mennea won the 200 meters in Mexico City on September 12, 1979 with a time of 19' 72'', setting a world record that remained unbeaten for 17 years). With the '97 vintage, on November 28, 1999, it became wine of the year for the Gambero Rosso Guide: “...and so I thought of adding Tunina to the name of my daughter Sylvia, born exactly on the same day...” With the '98 vintage it won the Oscar of wine for the Italian Sommelier Association. In 2003, during a visit to the Abbey of Monreale in Palermo, Silvio, inspired by the interior decorations of Arab-Norman architecture, enriched the label with a Greek key that developed around the hexagon. In conclusion, we report a quote from the article by Cesare Pillon that appeared in Civiltà del bere in October 2000: “...but Vintage Tunina is exceptional in many other ways. No one had ever realized it, and yet it is the most extraordinary meditation wine that exists. And it is not in a passive sense (a wine to drink while meditating), but in an active sense: it is a wine that makes you meditate...”.

THE WINE:

Vintage Tunina has a bright straw color with golden reflections. The aroma is intense, broad, very elegant and persistent, with hints of honey and wild flowers. It has a dry, soft, very harmonious flavor, with exceptional persistence, due to its particularly full body.

FOOD PAIRING:

It pairs well with truffled first courses, with a wide variety of fish dishes, especially baked and with sauce, but it can also be paired with white meats. I have a wonderful memory of its encounter with a pillow of fresh salmon stuffed with parmesan and artichokes. (Daniele Cernilli)
