Born in 1996 from the desire to rediscover a native variety characteristic of the Tyrrhenian coastal area, recognized since the 90s for its aromatic qualities. The Bolgheri microclimate, particularly suitable for the production of Vermentino both for the conformation of the territory and for the proximity to the sea, gives the wine a marked minerality and freshness as well as enhancing its aromatic component
THE 2024 VINTAGE:
The winter months were characterized by heavy rains and mild temperatures, which caused budding to occur about 10 days earlier than usual, between the end of March and the beginning of April. Spring was characterized by frequent rainfall and lower temperatures than the historical average, favoring a long and regular flowering, lasting about fifteen days. The excellent water reserves accumulated in the winter-spring months allowed the plants to better face the summer period, characterized by a generally hot and dry climate, allowing correct formation and development of the grapes. The harvest was characterized by a
warm season, giving the grapes an excellent varietal expression and a good ratio between sugars and acidity. The Vermentino harvest was carried out between 3 and 20 September.
VINIFICATION AND REFINING:
Each plot was harvested separately, depending on the level of ripeness of the grapes, in order to enhance the complex territorial characteristics of each vineyard. Upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes were destemmed, delicately crushed and softly pressed. The resulting must was transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place at a temperature of 16 °C. The different lots were carefully and regularly evaluated and assembled. Tenuta Guado al Tasso's Vermentino was bottled in January 2024.
THE WINE:
Tenuta Guado al Tasso's Vermentino has a straw yellow color with greenish reflections. The nose is intense and characterized by hints of citrus, white flowers and tropical fruit. On the palate it is savory and persistent, with a fresh and pleasantly citrusy finish.
HISTORICAL DATA:
Tenuta Guado al Tasso is located in the small and prestigious DOC of Bolgheri, on the coast of Alta Maremma, about a hundred kilometers southwest of Florence. This denomination has a relatively short history (it was founded in 1994) but boasts an international reputation as a new point of reference in the world wine scene. Tenuta Guado al Tasso extends over an area of 1,000 hectares - about 320 planted with vineyards, the rest cultivated with wheat, sunflowers and olive trees - in a splendid plain surrounded by hills known as the "Bolgheri amphitheater" for its particular shape. The vineyards of Guado al Tasso are composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Vermentino grapes, the latter grown with both white and red grapes. They enjoy a mild climate due to the nearby presence of the sea: constant breezes mitigate the summer heat and the rigours of winter, clean the sky and keep the sunshine index high. The first vintage of Vermentino produced at Tenuta Guado al Tasso was 1996.
