Achelo celebrates the Cortona territory through an enveloping and delicate wine. Its name is inspired by the God Achelo, depicted in one of the most important Etruscan works kept at the Museum of the Etruscan Academy of Cortona. HISTORICAL DATA Fattoria La Braccesca, which extends over a total surface area of 508 hectares, is composed of two separate bodies: the historical core of the company is located in the Montepulciano area, with 103 ha planted with vineyards; the other, with 237 ha of vineyards, is located at the foot of the hills surrounding Cortona. THE VINTAGE:
Winter 2023 was characterized by generally mild temperatures and regular rainfall, which ensured excellent water reserves in the soil. Budding began in early April, in a spring period characterized by a cool and generally rainy season. June saw a significant increase in temperatures while during the month of August, sporadic rain events and excellent temperature variations between day and night allowed an excellent start to ripening. The harvest for Achelo began on September 15th. At the time of harvest, the grapes were healthy and characterized by excellent aroma and balance.
VINIFICATION AND REFINING:
After destemming and crushing, the must was transferred to stainless steel tanks where a cold pre-fermentation maceration took place in order to enhance the fruity notes. The fermentation, which took place at temperatures no higher than 25 °C, lasted about 10 days. The wine was then transferred for 70% to second and third passage French oak barriques, where malolactic fermentation took place, and for the remaining part to steel.
TASTING NOTES:
Achelo 2023 has a ruby red color with purple reflections. On the nose, intense notes of violet, blackberry and plum combine with pleasant spicy and piquant sensations; aromas of vanilla and black pepper complete the bouquet. On the palate it is fresh, pleasantly soft and velvety, with silky tannins and hints reminiscent of black cherry and licorice but also blackberry. Excellent aftertaste, characterized by pleasant sensations of dark fruit, spices and vanilla.
