Carrubo, produced from a selection of grapes from the estate's vineyards, was born from the ambition to represent the character and charm of the Apulian territory through the main variety of this denomination: Primitivo.

HISTORICAL DATA:

Tenuta Carrubo is located in the countryside of the town of Fragagnano (TA), in the DOC area of Manduria, about 120 meters above sea level. The 40 hectares of vineyards are cultivated with the historic local variety. Here, Primitivo finds an area of choice, favored by the calcareous soils, typically red, and by the climate characterized by particularly hot summers, but with excellent temperature variations between day and night. The historic vineyards are trained as bushes but there are also espaliers in the more recent rows.

THE VINTAGE:

The 2019 vintage in Salento was generally regular. A winter with generally mild climate and historically average rainfall preceded a cool spring, causing a delay in budding and subsequent flowering. The summer was regular, dry and characterized by moderate ventilation. This process allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness and considerable concentration, while maintaining the characteristic fruity notes intact. The Primitivo per Carrubo was harvested between 6 and 9 September.

VINIFICATION AND REFINING:

The grapes were harvested slightly overripe. Maceration, which occurred after pressing, was managed with gentle pumping over and took place at a temperature no higher than 27 °C. Malolactic fermentation took place in steel. After aging, which took place in 500-liter French oak tonneaux, partly new and partly 2nd passage, the wine rested in the bottle for 8 months before being released onto the market.

TASTING NOTES:

Carrubo 2019 has an intense ruby red color with purple reflections. The nose is rich and complex: intense notes of morello cherry, cherry in alcohol and dried plum combine with delicate sensations of licorice, vanilla, chocolate and amaretto. On the palate it is soft and broad, with elegant tannins well supported by a pleasant freshness. Excellent length on the finish and fruity aftertaste, typical of the variety.
