The palace illustrated on the label is the one where Queen Maria Carolina took refuge while fleeing Naples and was the favorite home of the writer Tomasi di Lampedusa in Santa Margherita Belice. Gabriella Anca Rallo – founder of Donnafugata together with her husband Giacomo – captures the image and sets it in a sky from “A Thousand and One Nights” full of stars and rich in promises. A tribute to the passionate masterpiece of oriental literature, capable of telling a thousand and one tales. Icon Wines: great labels with a unique personality. VINTAGE:
At Contessa Entellina, most of the rainfall occurred in spring; only in some plots was there heavy rain in summer. The integrated management of agronomic practices, from pruning to thinning to the choice of different harvest times, inspired by sustainable viticulture, has allowed us to have healthy and well-ripened grapes and obtain very elegant red wines with extremely fine and well-integrated tannins.
HARVEST AND VINIFICATION:
Manual harvest in crates with careful selection of the grapes in the vineyard. The harvest of the grapes destined for Mille e una Notte began at the end of August with the harvest of Syrah and ended in the first ten days of September with the harvest of Nero d'Avola and Petit Verdot. Upon receipt in the cellar, further selection of the bunches on the vibrating table and subsequent selection of the grapes thanks to a latest-generation destemmer, capable of discarding the green and overripe ones. Fermentation in steel with maceration on the skins for about 14 days at a temperature of 28°C -30°C. Aged for 13-14 months in new French oak barriques and at least 24 months in the bottle.
TASTING NOTES:
In Contessa Entellina in the heart of western Sicily, the 2019 vintage was less rainy. Much of the rainfall occurred in winter and spring, while the summer was quite dry. The careful management of agronomic practices, from pruning to thinning to the choice of different harvest times, allowed us to have healthy and well-ripened grapes, giving life to very elegant red wines with extremely fine and well-integrated tannins.
FOOD AND WINE PAIRING:
Excellent with roast and braised meat, first courses with ragù and rack of lamb. Try it with tasty stewed fish dishes. Serve it in large glasses, it can be uncorked a couple of hours before. Excellent at 18°C.
