“The Albarossa vineyard… is spread out in a large amphitheater-shaped basin. I tried to paint it flat, then more perspective-oriented, but the result evoked… a Greek amphitheater, rather than a vineyard. I toned down the red… then I began to destroy the amphitheater, drawing increasingly smaller, unsafe and irregular portions of it, until it became just a memory. That was what we wanted.”

SOIL:

Of marine sedimentary origin with a significant presence of Astian sands, poor in organic substance, but rich in microelements such as magnesium, potassium, manganese

THE WINE:

It is obtained from the vinification of Albarossa grapes, a variety created in 1938 by a Piedmontese winemaker by crossing Nebbiolo and Barbera. Given the dedication to the recovery of the native grapes of this winery, the choice to enhance this little-known vine with a monovarietal wine is not surprising. The vines grow on a predominantly sandy soil and can benefit from the south-east exposure, as well as the ideal microclimate for optimal growth. The harvest takes place very carefully and then the grapes are transported to the cellar, where they ferment in steel with maceration on the skins for a week. The following refinement involves two distinct phases, first in oak barrels and then in the bottle, for a total of two years. It follows that Montald Albarossa Piedmont DOC It is excellent immediately, but can be enjoyed after 3-4 years of rest in the cellar.
