Barbaresco was born in 1894 by the will of Domizio Cavazza, Director of the Royal Enological School of Alba founded in 1881. Its regulations and territory were defined with the DOC of 1966 and the DOCG of 1980 and includes the municipalities of Barbaresco, Treiso, Neive and Alba. |
HISTORICAL DATA:
The great diversity of exposure of the vineyards due to the conformation of the bricco, hill in Piedmontese dialect, and the specific clonal selection, combine with the refinement in large barrels of different capacities for a balanced and pleasant Barbaresco.
VINIFICATION:
Upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes were destemmed and crushed. Fermentation took place over approximately 10 days at a maximum temperature of 30 °C. Malolactic fermentation was completed before winter. The wine matured for at least 12 months in oak barrels of varying capacities. Bric Turot then aged for approximately 1 year in the bottle before being released onto the market.
TASTING NOTES:
Bric Turot has an intense garnet red color with ruby reflections. The nose is sensual, broad and complex: intense floral notes of violet and rose combine with sensations of raspberry, strawberry and spicy hints. On the palate it is full, persuasive, very balanced and characterized by a pleasant tannic structure.
THE VINTAGE:
Winter 2019, with the exception of a couple of snow events and rare rainfall, was characterized by temperatures above the seasonal average, favoring an early vegetative recovery especially in the vineyards with the best exposure. The generally cold climate marked by rain starting from April until the end of May influenced flowering, reducing the number of grapes per bunch and therefore limiting production. The month of June, characterized by a generally warm and dry period, preceded rainfall from mid-July. The excellent temperature ranges during the month of August and repeated thinning in the vineyard ensured that the integrity of the fruit was safeguarded. September, which began with a short and intense period of rainfall, continued with rising temperatures and a clear climate until mid-October. It was certainly not an easy year, with a long harvest, limited production but characterized by excellent grape quality. The harvest began on October 13 and ended on the 19th of the same month.
