The territory of Castello Pomino

Brightness and minerality with a touch of feminine elegance. A hidden gem that reveals itself to those who cross the first woods of the Florentine mountains, with vines that climb up to an altitude of 700 meters, surrounded by sequoias, firs and chestnut trees.

Pomino Castle

The Castello Pomino estate dates back to 1500, the year the Castle of the same name was built, and from the very beginning it has stood out for the excellence of the place where it stands. This is evidenced by the story of 1716, when the Grand Duke Cosimo III de' Medici identified the four most suitable territories in Tuscany for producing Quality Wines:

in the announcement, considered the precursor of modern DOCs, the territory of Pomino is listed alongside Chianti, Carmignano and Val d'Arno di Sopra. In 1873, the wines of Pomino were awarded at the Universal Exhibition in Vienna, while in 1878 they obtained the Gold Medal at the Expo in Paris, the highest international recognition of the time.

"Audace: a wine that expresses the desire to take new paths, courageous and determined, with an expressive and elegant character like my great-great-grandmother Leonia who inspired me in my innovative choices. It was she who planted French vines in Pomino, vinifying them in the first Italian gravity winery, receiving the gold medal as a prize at the Paris Expo in 1878" - Lamberto Frescobaldi

VINIFICATION AND MATURATION:

The hand-harvested Pinot Noir grapes arrived at the winery in 15 kg crates during the coolest hours of the day. The soft pressing to which they were subjected ensured the extraction of a clear must with a light anthocyanin charge. Subsequently, the 12-hour cold clarification allowed for further clarification, which was crucial in creating a qualitative harmony that characterized our Leonia rosé. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at a constant and controlled temperature; a part was fermented in wood. In March, the assembly phase of the different cuvées took place, followed by the tirage (addition of the liqueur de tirage), with subsequent refinement on the yeasts for 40 months, concluded with remuage and dégorgement. Before being released onto the market, Leonia rosé remained in the bottle for a few months to refine. This brought further harmony and organoleptic balance.

TASTING NOTES:

Leonia rosé 2019 is a pale pink with crystalline clarity. The finesse of its perlage is a constant in all vintages, very thin chains underline its visual as well as olfactory elegance. On the nose it begins with pleasant hints of blackberry, raspberry, black cherry and currant. Its fruity character evolves after a few moments, blending the initial aromas with clear citrus notes. The olfactory finish is dominated by spicy sensations of white pepper and memories of pastry. Fresh and mineral in the mouth it fully satisfies the palate also thanks to the extraordinary taste-olfactory coherence. Absolutely long the finish invites you to taste it again. Satisfying.
