A balance of unique elements

The territory is one of the fundamental ingredients that contributes to the success of a high-quality wine. The Langhe, consisting of an extensive system of hills, are the ideal place for the growth of a fine vine: thanks to the strategic position, the altitude, the particular exposure and the rich composition of the soil. A balance of elements that gives the grapes a rich and unmistakable flavor.

THE VINEYARD:

MONTELUPO

Montelupo hosts in the land of its vast slopes a large part of the CaViola vineyards: 11 hectares that rest on a soil rich in clayey calcareous marl and sandstone at 400 meters above sea level that gives the wines great structure, complexity, and longevity. From the vineyards of Montelupo the following selections are obtained: Dolcetto d'Alba Barturot, Dolcetto d'Alba Vilot, Barbera d'Alba Bric du Luv, Barbera d'Alba Brichet and Langhe Nebbiolo.

THE WINE:

Langhe Nebbiolo changes its name and dress. With the 2021 vintage, now in its fifteenth harvest, and for the following years, our Langhe Nebbiolo will be called Rangone and will feature a special work of art on the label by Gianni Gallo. The name Rangone has ancient roots and comes from the Rangone Counts of Montelupo Albese, our land of origin, where most of our vineyards are grown today. The Rangone Pinot Noir – produced many years ago for a few harvests – was the first spokesperson for the memory of the noble Rangone family of Montelupo Albese; today we wish to renew this tribute by dedicating the name to one of the vines considered noble par excellence, Nebbiolo. To the eye it presents itself as ruby red with garnet nuances on the nail. The nose is very clear, of remarkable breadth and complexity, with notes of undergrowth and wet earth in evidence. The mouth is more elegant than powerful, with a “Burgundian” atmosphere, lively and at the same time austere, with silky and well-developed tannins. Long and satisfying finish, with a nice hint of fruit. Suggested serving temperature: 14-15° C.

VINIFICATION AND REFINING:

Fermentation 15 days in temperature-controlled tanks with 10/20% whole grapes. 8-10 months in large barrels.
