Driven by the courage that every person who wants to undertake has, in the 70s we planted the first Merlot vines on an unusual clay soil. An important challenge that in 1991 saw the birth of Lamaione, a solitary knight, powerful and proud in the panorama of Montalcino.
VINIFICATION AND MATURATION:
The Lamaione vineyard is located at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, on marine clay soils and facing south-west. The Merlot grapes were carefully selected and harvested by hand in crates. Once they reached the cellar, the grapes were destemmed and selected manually. Fermentation took place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine was then aged for 24 months in 80% new French oak barriques; this was followed by a further 12 months of ageing in the bottle.
VINTAGE :
The 2020 season began with rather limited rainfall in the winter months, after the restoration of water reserves in the last months of 2019. The water reserves generated in this period made it possible to face the highest temperatures of the summer period from June to August. The vines began their budding in the last days of March. The beginning of flowering was recorded in the second half of May with a then regular course favored by an ideal climate with hot, dry and slightly windy days. The absence of rain even during the harvest period allowed us to bring perfectly ripe, healthy and structured grapes to the cellar. The phenolic composition and sugar content were perfect.
THE WINE:
Lamaione 2020 presents a beautiful intense and impenetrable ruby red color with purple reflections. The intense and complex bouquet is expressed with notes of red berries and plum. This is followed by intense tertiary notes reminiscent of roasted coffee beans and cocoa powder. The spiciness is also beautiful with notes reminiscent of licorice. On the palate it is harmonious, warm and broad, with a velvety tannin. Persistent and long.
