Driven by the courage that every person who wants to undertake has, in the 70s we planted the first Merlot vines on an unusual clay soil. An important challenge that in 1991 saw the birth of Lamaione, a solitary knight, powerful and proud in the panorama of Montalcino.
VINIFICATION AND MATURATION:
The Lamaione vineyard is located at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, on marine clay soils and facing south-west. The Merlot grapes were carefully selected and harvested by hand in crates. Once they reached the cellar, the grapes were destemmed and selected manually. Fermentation took place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine was then aged for 24 months in 80% new French oak barriques; this was followed by a further 12 months of ageing in the bottle.
VINTAGE :
The 2018 season was characterized by a cool and rainy winter, with normal budding. The spring, rainy during the flowering period, slowed down the fruit set, naturally lowering the productive load of the plants. The summer was dry, with little rain, but thanks to the water reserve created in spring, there were no problems. This situation allowed a regular development of the veraison and an excellent ripening, with cool nights ideal for the development of aromas and color. The north wind of mid-September led to a drop in temperatures.
THE WINE:
The nose is wonderful with hints of cherry jam and plum. The hints of rhubarb, graphite, dark chocolate, licorice and notes of roasted coffee are also intriguing. In the mouth it is warm, soft and round. The tannic texture is remarkable with a dense and at the same time silky texture.
