RECOMMENDED FOR INVESTMENT!

"When Joseph Krug founded the Champagne House that bears his name in 1843, driven by the belief that the true essence of Champagne is pleasure itself, his dream was to offer the best possible Champagne every year, regardless of climatic variations. He revolutionized the rules of Champagne creation, founding a House where all Champagnes have the same level of distinction."

This bottle is part of the 170th Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, a blend of 195 wines selected from 12 different years. The youngest dates back to 2014, while the oldest is from 1998. The rest of nearly seven years in the Krug cellars gives this Edition a remarkable expression and elegance. Each glass is the result of more than 20 years of artisanal excellence.

AT THE SIGHT:

A golden color, fine and lively bubbles, an authentic promise of pleasure.

ON THE NOSE:

Aromas of freshly bloomed flowers, ripe and dried fruit, marzipan, gingerbread and citrus fruits.

ON THE PALATE:

Notes of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, fruit jelly, citrus fruits, almonds, brioche and honey.

FOOD PAIRINGS:

Krug Grande Cuvée lends itself to a multitude of culinary pairings, from the simplest to the most sophisticated, from aged parmesan to turbot with truffles. This Champagne can be chosen as an aperitif, accompanied by Jabugo ham and aged comté or paired with oysters, grilled scampi, Indian or Moroccan dishes, as well as desserts such as carrot cake, tarte tatin or cheese cake.

THE ASSEMBLY:

In this blend, the dynamic 2014 Pinot Noirs come from a wide range of plots across Champagne, while the fruit-forward, full-bodied Chardonnays were selected from terroirs in the Montagne de Reims, Sézannais and Côte des Blancs. The Meuniers from the Vallée de la Marne Rive Gauche were particularly luminous, with beautiful fruit expression from plots in Leuvrigny. To complement these year-round wines, I selected reserve Pinot Noirs from terroirs in the Montagne de Reims Sud renowned for their structure, including a 2005 Ambonnay. Reserve Chardonnays from wines from Avize and Mesnil-sur-Oger from a wide range of vintages are particularly present in this blend, while the reserve Meuniers, particularly from 2013, add freshness, intensity and chiseled structure.

THE CLIMATE:

Krug Grande Cuvée 170th Edition was composed around the 2014 harvest, an unpredictable year with alternating hot, dry periods and cool, rainy ones. The wines developed in good conditions, ensuring a generous harvest. The contrasting weather patterns preserved freshness and resulted in great heterogeneity within the region, underlining the importance of the House's approach to treating each plot as a stand-alone.
