I like to remember that these lands, thousands of years ago, were submerged by the sea. Then on these sandy and clayey soils 700 years ago my ancestors planted the first vineyards and our history as winemakers began. Today Giramonte is born here, a wine with a modern character, but a faithful interpreter of the history and characteristics of this territory.

THE WINE:

Giramonte 2021 has a wonderful intense and impenetrable ruby red color with light purple hues. The complex bouquet offers splendid fruity notes ranging from blackberry, blueberry, morello cherry and plum. The toasted sensations are perfectly integrated translating into roasted coffee bean, cocoa bean and toasted hazelnut. Wide, round and with a dense and silky tannic texture. Long and persistent finish.

CLIMATE TREND:

Following a mild winter, at Tenuta Castiglioni the vines sprouted in early April, a few days earlier than usual. Overall, April was clear and rather cool. Flowering occurred in the last week of May, a period during which the weather was always clear and slightly breezy; this led to excellent fruit set. From April to August, some moderately intense showers were recorded, with some slight peaks in June; during the months of vegetative expression, water resources were always proportionate to need (no drought but no excess water either). Veraison, which occurred starting from the last week of August, was followed by gradual ripening during the month of September. Harvesting, for Merlot and Sangiovese, began in mid-September. The fruits were wonderfully concentrated and had excellent aromatic intensity.

VINIFICATION AND REFINING:

The vineyard is located at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level, on clay soils, with a south-west exposure. The Merlot and Sangiovese grapes were selected by hand. The alcoholic fermentation took place spontaneously in stainless steel containers at a controlled temperature, with light pumping over carried out especially in the first few days. The malolactic fermentation took place in new French oak barriques, where the wine then remained to mature for the following months. The further period of refinement in the bottle gave us a Giramonte with great organoleptic qualities, the fruit of a beautiful vintage.

Castiglioni Estate

A family property since the 11th century, Castiglioni is the original center of Frescobaldi wine production, which has been witness to its exploits since 1300. The estate extends along the ancient Via di Castiglioni, built by the Romans to unite northern Tuscany with Rome, the eternal city.

The area was already famous at that time for the high quality of its agricultural crops and was for centuries the center of intense traffic and the chosen place for the construction of luxurious Roman villas. The noble coat of arms of the Frescobaldi family, with the crown, the shield and the three drums, is also represented as a symbol of Castiglioni, to remember the 700 years of winemaking history, which began right on this estate.
