MARENEVE Crystalline Alchemy

A passion that surpasses all limits.

Mareneve is the result of an idea as simple as it is bold: to plant a vineyard at an extreme altitude to test how cold-climate vines react to high-altitude volcanic soil.

I have always considered wine as something alive: a changing element, a mirror of our society and like it in constant evolution.

This is why I decided to get involved, interpreting the vineyard with my own style, with the aim of creating a link between tradition and innovation and contributing to the valorization of an ancient and irreplaceable profession.

THE WINE:

From the North-West side, at over 1200 meters above sea level, the peak of Etna almost completely fills the view, with its dense plumes of gray smoke and its nocturnal flashes. In this wild and primordial place grow the grapes that will become Mareneve, in a small plot of land that climbs along the side of the volcano in Contrada Nave, near Bronte. A unique vineyard for variety, position and climatic conditions, planted in the early 2000s according to the alberello system, which hosts white grape varieties of Etna - such as Carricante and Grecanico - alongside other typical Northern European ones - such as Riesling Renano, Gewürztraminer and Chenin Blanc.

Bright white with greenish hues, Intense and slightly aromatic aromas of fresh tropical fruit, pineapple, white peach and lychee, white musk, rose, lemon granita, lava stone and salt. On the palate it is harmonious, extremely fresh, fine and vertical, salty and persistent. Reminiscent of the white freshness of snow and the salinity of the Mediterranean.

VINIFICATION AND REFINING:

Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, malolactic fermentation not carried out, maturation in steel on fine lees for 12 months, and refinement for 6 months in the bottle.

FOOD PAIRINGS:

It pairs very well with raw fish dishes, seafood, oysters, shellfish and wild asparagus.
