A wine that presents itself as a full expression of the quality and elegance of the Sangiovese from these areas. TIGNANELLO ESTATE: Tenuta Tignanello is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, on the soft hills between the Greve and Pesa valleys and extends for 319 hectares, of which about 130 are vineyards. The vineyards of Tenuta Tignanello are mainly composed of the native Sangiovese and non-traditional varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Marchese Antinori is a historic reserve of the Antinori house, a wine created to tell the full expression of quality and elegance of Chianti Classico in this unique territory. |
THE VINTAGE:
In Chianti Classico, 2020 began with a mild and dry winter and, only in the final part of March, was it marked by a short cold period; these climatic conditions favored an early budding of the vines. The averagely rainy and rather cool spring preceded a hot summer, without excessive temperatures, and characterized by some rainy events that allowed the bunches to grow optimally.
The month of September, during which the harvesting operations began, was characterized especially in its final part by light rains that favored the completion of the phenolic ripening of the grapes. The harvest began around September 20 with the Sangiovese and ended on October 9 with the Cabernet Sauvignon.
VINIFICATION AND REFINING:
Upon arrival at the cellar, the bunches were destemmed and then softly pressed; the must was transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place, lasting approximately one week. Maceration was managed with very delicate pumping over and délestage to ensure intense extraction but at the same time capable of preserving the elegance and sweetness of the tannins. At the end of malolactic fermentation, which occurred spontaneously by the end of the year, the assembled wine continued its period of aging in French and Hungarian oak barriques for approximately one year. Marchese Antinori was then bottled and refined in the bottle for a further 12 months.
TASTING NOTES:
Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva has a ruby red color. The nose is striking for its intense notes of ripe red fruit, cherry, currant and raspberry, alternating with delicate floral scents of dog rose, violet and lavender; the bouquet is completed by typical blood sensations combined with pleasant spicy nuances of tobacco, cinnamon and clove, with a sweet note of milk chocolate. On the palate it is balanced, with silky and vibrant tannins that give a good freshness and support a savory and persistent finish.
