“This wine is a dream pursued for years. From Tenuta Perano, strongly desired by my entire family, we chose the Rialzi vineyard, which rises above the others thanks to three characteristic natural steps. A Gran Selezione that, as the name says, reminds me every day of the continuous commitment to excellence.”
THE VINTAGE:
The harsh climate with frost, snow and lots of precipitation characterized the winter of 2018. The spring thaw and the increase in temperatures allowed the vines to sprout regularly as usual. The mild temperatures and some spring rains meant that the canopy formed quickly with a nice extended surface. The vines flowered from 2 to 6 June, with sunny days and temperatures that favored good fruit set. Subsequently, veraison occurred around 10 August thanks to optimal conditions of heat during the day, but mitigated by good ventilation at night. The splendid vintage must in any case be attributed to the hot summer characterized by a rain in July and one at the beginning of August. The harvest began on 10 September, with grapes of exceptional health and quality. The 2018 vintage is to be considered extraordinary for the intensity of aromas and richness of tannins, which the two summer rains and a sun-kissed September-October made soft and velvety.
VINIFICATION AND REFINING:
The Rialzi vineyard is located at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level and above, positioned on three terraces with alberese soils and a south-west exposure. The Sangiovese grapes, after careful work in the vineyard, were harvested by hand with care. Once they arrived in the cellar they were subjected to a further and careful selection. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature with skin maceration and delicate pumping over, in order to allow the best polyphenolic extraction. The wine was then aged for 36 months, 24 of which in barriques. Only after further refinement in the bottle, Rialzi Chianti Classico Gran Selezione was ready for release on the market.
THE WINE:
Rialzi 2018 has a bright and deep ruby red color with light garnet reflections. Its bouquet is extremely broad and elegant at the same time. The notes of undergrowth stand out above all, accompanied by fruity sensations of sour cherry. Among the floral notes, that of rose prevails, the spicy sensation recalls juniper and cinnamon. The nose ends with delicate tertiary notes, perfectly integrated into the body of the wine. Balanced in the mouth, warm and dry. The tannin is soft and silky. The finish is extremely long and persistent.
