The name of Bollinger's iconic champagne, with its English spelling, encapsulates its entire history. It was Georges Bollinger's British agent who, in 1911, named it "Special Cuvée", because he found that the expression "non-vintage brut" did not fit a champagne of such subtlety. More than a century later, the name of Bollinger's iconic champagne still encapsulates its entire history.
This impressed on the labels and on the minds what the taste buds already knew: that special Cuvée was indeed very... special. It confirms the well-known know-how and the ability of the House to recreate year after year a cuvée with a constancy of style and quality .
THE WINE :
The delicate assembly of the expression of a harvest and the majority of reserve wines, some of which have been kept in magnums for between 5 and 15 years. The Cuvée Speciale is composed of over 85% Grand and Premier cru of the three main Champagne varieties: 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier. It is aged in the cellar for twice the time required by appellation regulations. It is moderately dosed between 7 and 8 grams per liter.
A wonderful aromatic complexity. The Cuvée Speciale is the fruit of a precise blend of different harvests and especially reserve wines, which give the wine all its structure and make it a benchmark of the Bollinger style. To the eye A golden color, distinctive of black grape varieties; very fine bubbles. To the nose A beautiful aromatic complexity; ripe fruit and spicy aromas; hints of toasted apples, compote and peaches. To the palate A subtle combination of structure, length and vivacity; velvety bubbles; pear, brioche and spicy aromas, notes of fresh walnut. To enhance its style, bouquet and unique aromas, this wine is best served between 8 and 10°C. You can enjoy the Cuvée Speciale right away or choose to age it in your cellar.
