Barbaresco was born in 1894 by the will of Domizio Cavazza, Director of the Royal Enological School of Alba founded in 1881. Its regulations and territory were defined with the DOC of 1966 and the DOCG of 1980 and includes the municipalities of Barbaresco, Treiso, Neive and Alba. |
HISTORICAL DATA:
The great diversity of exposure of the vineyards due to the conformation of the bricco, hill in Piedmontese dialect, and the specific clonal selection, combine with the refinement in large barrels of different capacities for a balanced and pleasant Barbaresco.
VINIFICATION:
Upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes were destemmed and crushed. Fermentation took place over approximately 10 days at a maximum temperature of 30 °C. Malolactic fermentation was completed before winter. The wine matured for at least 12 months in oak barrels of different capacities. Bric Turot then aged for 1 year in the bottle before being released onto the market.
TASTING NOTES:
Bric Turot has an intense garnet red color with dark ruby reflections. The nose is complex, with hints of licorice in harmony with small wild berries, cinnamon, cloves and pleasant sensations of violet. The palate is striking for full and enveloping tannins. The aftertaste of ripe fruit is long.
CLIMATE:
The 2018 vintage was characterized by a long winter marked by rainfall capable of re-establishing the water supply of the soil that had weakened during the 2017 climate trend. The winter season continued until the beginning of March with temperatures lower than the historical average, favoring a slow vegetative recovery of the vine. Both spring and the first part of summer continued with frequent rainfall and not high temperatures. Starting from mid-July, temperatures rose significantly; the long and stable period of good weather favored the slow and regular ripening of the grapes, while maintaining heterogeneity among the vineyards. The harvest for Bric Turot began on September 28 and ended on October 7.
