Collection: J. Hofstätter Estate
The story: a family of South Tyrolean winemakers
With great foresight and entrepreneurial spirit, he left his mark on architectural choices such as the wine tower that has stood harmoniously next to the ancient bell tower of Termeno since 1998. He is also responsible for the decision to expand the family properties. In 2014, he acquired the Dr. Fischer estate in Moselle, Germany, realizing the dream of producing the beloved Riesling where this noble grape variety can express itself at its best.
In 2017 he expanded the boundaries of the estate in Trentino, the homeland of his ancestors, with the acquisition of Maso Michei, a fascinating example of high mountain viticulture located in the Valle dei Ronchi, above Ala. J. Hofstätter is today one of the largest family-run wineries in Alto Adige. The three young sons of Martin Foradori Hofstätter are committed to training, study and professional experience to be ready to write the future of a reality that has always been at the forefront in every choice. A challenge that collects the legacy of a family that for five generations has dedicated itself to quality without compromise.
Sieglinde was the only daughter of Konrad and Luise Oberhofer, heirs of the J. Hofstätter estate in Termeno. With their marriage in 1959, Sieglinde and Paolo Foradori united their properties located on opposite sides of the Adige Valley. Thanks to Paolo, a scion of a family of Trentino winemakers, J. Hofstätter expanded his properties to include the Barthenau, Oberyngam, Unteryngram and Oberkerschbaum estates. Sieglinde and Paolo together guided the fortunes of the family business for many decades. In 1987, with the creation of Vigna S. Urbano Pinot Nero, Paolo Foradori introduced the Vigna classification for the first time in Alto Adige. He thus made a significant contribution to the success of this grape variety, being unanimously recognized as the father of Alto Adige Pinot Nero.
THE VINEYARDS:
Gentle valleys, powerful rivers, steep slopes
Over a century of experience in tending unique vineyards in the south of Alto Adige. The estates, so different from each other, offer the ideal soil type and microclimate for each variety. The rows extend not only on both sides - east and west - of the Adige Valley, but also between the peaks of the Ronchi Valley, in southern Trentino, and on the steep slopes of the Saar, in Moselle, Germany.
Situated between 250 and 850 metres above sea level, the vineyards enjoy different conditions depending on their exposure: the grapes ripen with the morning sun in some areas or with the evening sun in others and are reached by fresh mountain breezes or warm southern winds. The compositions of the soils are also varied, characterised, depending on the area, by clay, gravel, sand, porphyry, limestone or slate.
TERM "VINEYARD"
Wines from the most suitable terroirs of Alto Adige: Mission and passion
A wine that bears the name of the “Vigna” on the label is made from grapes that come from a single and well-defined vineyard. For J. Hofstätter, this type of wine is the maximum expression of the most suitable crus.
Paolo Foradori introduced this classification in Alto Adige as early as 1987. Thanks to his pioneering work, the company allows the precise identification of the parcel where a particular wine is born.
